This is a female cougar I had the wonderful experience of photographing. Unfortunately she is in captivity because her claws were removed when she was found in the back seat of a car. Cats of all sizes are one of my favorite things to paint.
I am an artist and watercolor instructor. I love all things to do with art. In the third grade, my teacher admired a crayon drawing I made of a swan and lily pads. Her positive comments made me want to create art from then on. I now teach watercolor and drawing. I love to share what I've learned and draw out of others that fascination with art that we all had as children. A quote from Pablo Picasso sits over my desk in my studio: "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." Many of my students can remember teachers or other students who made critical comments about their artwork. When this happens, many beginning artists have the urge to quit. I always encourage my students: “Never give up”....

Bonnie, I love your Cougars. I especially like the way you used purple in this one. Cats are one of my favorite things to paint, too.
Bonnie Rinier replied:
Thank you Jamie Frier for you kind comments. I do love to push color on animals, and purple is usually what I see .
